Built with extremely rugged construction and a magnesium alloy body that's sealed against water and dust, this professional digital SLR provides standard manual and automatic exposure modes, along with many advanced features. The D2Xs is a minor upgrade to Nikon's D2X. Among the D2Xs's notable features are 11 selectable autofocus points, nine of which are cross-type sensors; excellent tracking autofocus modes; interchangeable focusing screens; both TIFF and RAW capture; an advanced battery meter; a time lapse mode; an advanced multiple exposure mode; voice annotation; numerous color options; and 40 custom settings. This camera's "High-Speed Cropped Image" mode captures only the pixels found within a boxed area in the viewfinder in order to boost the continuous-shooting rate from 5fps to 8fps. Improvements to the high-speed mode differentiate the D2Xs from its predecessor. This model also has an LCD with a wider viewing angle, a black-and-white mode, more ISO increments, adjustable autofocus lock durations, and an image-authentication function, among other improvements. The D2Xs supports several GPS devices, Nikon's i-TTL wireless flash system, and its WT-2/2A wireless transmitter. Nikon charges extra for its software for processing RAW images and controlling the camera wirelessly from a computer.
