Taking waterfall snaps with tripod can give some amazing pictures. But if you don't have a tripod, don't stop shooting! Lean against a wall or a tree and take the snap of water with a steady hand. Although there would be some amount of vibration, they can produce interesting criss-cross patterns in water (if shutter speed < 1sec) or get completely smoothened image (if shutter speed > 1sec). Avoid or crop trees/land in your shot. Take multiple shots and select the best ones. This won't be your best snap ever, but at least you wont miss out capturing the beauty.
