New Memory Stick options target photographers, Movie fans and cell phone users.

Sony Expands Memory Stick Line

Sony today announced several new Memory Stick options. The first, the new HX series, comes in 4GB and 8GB capacities and include a USB adapter for quick and easy transfer. Read and write speeds (20 MB/s and 15 MB/s, respectively) provide an almost 3x speed increase over regular Memory Stick PRO Duo media. The increased speed, according to Sony, will also provide continuous shooting of five frames per second on Sony Alpha DSLRs.

Sony also announced a new Memory Stick Entertainment Pack in 2GB and 4GB PRO Duo capacities and users can choose and transfer one of four movies using the included launcher DVD.

The third addition is a new line of Memory Stick Micro flash media for use with compatible Sony Ericsson multimedia phones. Bundled with a USB adapter for easy transfer of files to computers, Memory Stick Micro M2 media are available in on, two, four and eight GB capacities.

The entertainment packs were launched in September; all other Memory Stick models will be available this month. Suggested prices are as follows:

  • Memory Stick Micro M2 (1 GB), October, $24.99
  • Memory Stick Micro M2 (2 GB), October, $34.99

  • Memory Stick Micro M2 (8 GB), October, $79.99
  • Memory Stick Entertainment Pack (2 GB), September, $34.99
  • Memory Stick Entertainment Pack (4 GB), September, $44.99
