Fujifilm has added a new model to its line of advanced pocket cameras. The new Finepix F60fd offers 12-megapixel resolution, with a Super CCD VII HR sensor; a 3-inch, 230,000-dot LCD; and an f/2.8-5.1, 35-105mm (35mm equivalent) 3x zoom lens. The camera has a sensor-shift optical image stabilization system.
In addition to priority and programmed automatic modes, the F60fd provides 13 scene modes. It also has an SR Auto function that evaluates scenes to identify types of subjects, then adjusts exposure, focus, white balance, and ISO accordingly. As with other F-series cameras, the F60fd can capture ISO 6400 shots at 3 megapixels, ISO 3200 images at 6 megapixels, and ISO 1600 shots at full resolution. It offers a shutter-speed range of 1/2000 to 8 seconds.
Other notable features include automatic redeye removal; Fuji's i-Flash flash metering system, which adjusts flash intensity and reduces blown-out areas in flash photos; and a Portrait Enhancer feature that minimizes wrinkles and blemishes in-camera. The F60fd incorporates Fuji's third-generation face-detection technology, which can detect faces not only in profile and from high and low angles, but also when they're upside down or tilted at any angle. There's also a Dual Shot Mode that takes two images in quick succession, one with and one without the flash, then allows the photographer to save the best one. A Dual Image Stabilization function combines optical stabilization with an ISO boost, and the F60fd offers Fuji's flexible continuous-shooting options, which include Top and Final modes that save several frames from the beginning or end of the period during which the shutter release is held down. The F60fd is rated to shoot at 5fps at 3-megapixel resolution or 2ps at full resolution. It can also capture smooth VGA video with sound, and has a separate voice memo mode.
The Finepix F60fd will be available in September 2008 for a $299.95 retail price.
