Olympus has announced the 12.3 megapixel E-30 digital SLR, a midrange model that makes its home between its E-520 and flagship E3 models, filling out Olympus’ DSLR line.
While the E-30 offers almost all the features that photographers have come to expect from Olympus DSLRs, this model comes with a new creative twist. Equipped with on-board Art Filters and capable of multiple exposures, the E-30 makes it possible to shoot artistic photographs without the need to apply post-processing effects in the camera or on a computer. The six Art Filters include Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Color (soft light and pastel colors), Light Tone (soft highlights and shadows), Grainy Film, and Pin Hole. Multiple exposures, using up to four shots (including RAW images) are also possible, even if the shots are taken at different times and in different locations.
In addition to advanced dust reduction and in-camera mechanical image stabilization, the E-30 uses Olympus’ TruePic III+ Image Processor and two AF systems: AF Live View and phase detection AF. Other notable features include a 2.7-inch, 230K pixel swivel Live View LCD and an internal Digital Level sensor to keep your images aligned.
A new lens, the Zuiko Digital 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 II lens, with an equivalent focal range of 28-08mm, was also announced. The lens features high-speed Imager AF support for shooting with Live View and a circular aperture mechanism to help boost performance. Available in January, 2009, estimated street price for the E-30 (body only) is $1299 and $599 for the lens.
