International Center of Photography Declares 2009 the Year of Fashion

ICP will celebrate fashion photography with six exhibits in 2009

November 11, 2008

Not long after the final runway walk of this season’s New York Fashion Week, the International Center of Photography declared 2009 the Year of Fashion. To celebrate, ICP will present a six-show series of fashion photography beginning with work by Edward Steichen from January 16, 2009-May 3, 2009. Individual Richard Avedon, and David Seidner will also have individual shows.

The remaining three exhibits will feature a range of photographers. “Weird Beauty: Fashion Photography Now” will show work by Steven Meisel, Cindy Sherman, Miles Aldridge, and Paolo Roversi, among others. You’ll be able to see work by photographs such as Gordon Parks, Bruce Davidson, Walker Evans, Marc Riboud, and Robert Mapplethorpe (and many more) during the “This is Not a Fashion Photograph” exhibition. And, finally, the year-long celebration wraps up with the Third ICP Triennial of Photography and Video, which runs from September 18, 2009-January3, 2010.
